why do people say “don’t be a pussy” when talking about weakness more like “don’t be a man’s ego” because you know there isn’t nothing more fragile than that
because “pussy” is the shortened form of the word “pusillanimous”, which means “timid, cowardly”
and not the slang word for the female genital region?
literally no one else knows this. nobody.
And that is not how 99.9% of the population uses it.
Entomology is awesome and cool but don’t pretend that language doesn’t shift and change meaning. When people say “Pussy” in the western world today, they are talking about a vagina/vulva.
i love how fucking condescending uhmwillowsomething is even though they’re wrong as hell.
we discussed this in one of my linguistics classes. the idea that “pussy,” when used to imply cowardice, is a shortening of “pusillanimous” has been proven false by linguists. they sound similar, but that is merely coincidence — the previous did not originate from the later.
calling a coward a pussy originally was an allusion to incredibly lazy, submissive, and cowardly domesticated cats. now, since the word has long been associated with women and their genitals, the meaning has shifted and men now call each other that in order to imply a lack of masculinity and because they believe women to be weak and fearful.
so, sorry, uhmwillowsomething, but the word “pussy,” when used in this way, was not a shortening of pusillanimous. it has, for a long time, been deeply rooted in misogyny and no amount of poorly researched, bullshit, “look how smart i am and how unintelligent you are” facts will change that.
when I was little, I went through a phase where I’d wear my Spiderman costume under all my clothes, so I wore it for about 3 years straight and my mom never found out until one day when we were at a family party, I was wearing the costume under a really fancy and expensive dress, and someone started choking on something so I ripped off the dress to reveal the costume to try and save them, and I think my mom just about had a heart attack
